What We Offer

The ESOL Ministry at EUMC hopes to promote:
1. A sense of cross-cultural communication and understanding in our community.
2. An educational environment where people can improve their language skills.
3. A new virtual space for people to socialize and feel a sense of community.

We have reestablished free-of-charge English language learning and conversation groups in April 2021. The groups will be conducted through an online platform (i.e. Google Meet). The classes are leveled for beginners, intermediate and advanced speakers. Classes meet virtually Tuesday evenings from 7-8pm.

Please contact Dela Martin at dela.martin@emmanuelumcbeltsville.net if you would like to attend classes or volunteer with the mission.

HISTORY OF THE MINISTRY:

The ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) Ministry started 13 years ago during the second year of Reverend Daniel Mejia’s time at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. It is a vital resource in the Beltsville community. Despite the global pandemic, the ESOL Ministry can continue to run by adopting an online learning approach. The Ministry aims to serve our community by filling the educational void left at the start of the pandemic. We seek to help adults become more confident in their speaking abilities through English language practice with English speakers.
